In many Asian countries, this color symbolizes tranquility, wisdom, devotion, and creativity. I chose it for my product designs to convey intelligence and dedication, encouraging users to excel. Indigo Blue also offers a gentle, mature aesthetic that is elegant without being overwhelming, which aligns with my goal of creating refined yet understated designs.
This weekend, I made a collage of my favorite young Japanese rock bands, all of which have had a big impact worldwide. I was inspired by their energy and chose Su-Metal, one of the charismatic vocalists, to sketch. I started with a rough drawing in my journal and finished it on watercolor paper. Su-Metal is the lead singer of BABYMETAL, a group that has changed the metal rock scene with their mix of cute songs and heavy instrumentals, winning fans everywhere.
There is a famous saying: “Blue comes from indigo, yet is bluer than indigo.” It captures the moment when a student outshines their teacher, just as the deepest blue emerges from the humble green indigo plant after multiple dips in the vat. Another phrase, “the dyer’s white trousers,” paints a picture of someone so busy tending to others that they forget themselves. One of my favorite proverbs celebrates the power of devotion: the more you practice, the richer your skills and wisdom become. These stories about indigo never fail to inspire me, which is why I like to use them in my designs.
.*Materials I used for this journaling:
Calligraphy type felt pen.
Graphic stickers and tapes.
Magazine cut-out images.
Cafe Latte & croissant

I thought Su-Metal, with her famous 'kitsune' fox mask, would be a great subject for my weekend drawing. I wanted to focus on the details that set her apart in music. Her strong presence, the sharp lines of her silhouette, the power in her eyes, and the unique look of the fox mask all come together to create a striking image I wanted to capture.

I used gold leaf (foil) to create a golden circle behind her in the drawing to show the 'queen-like' aura she has during BABYMETAL’s live shows. It’s my way of showing how much she is admired as a strong and influential vocalist in modern rock.
