MD Notebook/ A6 size

MD notebooks are primarily available in five (plus variant) book-inspired sizes with different type of pages: lined, grid, or plain and some range from thick to slim. Since I carry around my notebooks to jot down meeting notes and doodle ideas, I usually go for A6 slim type with grid or plain pages.

I feel my standard MD paper type is smooth but not slick, providing enough feedback for a pleasant writing experience.

Key MD Paper Types

  • Standard MD PAPER (Cream): The signature paper used in most MD notebooks. Approximately 80 gsm and is specifically tuned for fountain pens, offering high resistance to feathering and bleed-through.

  • MD PAPER Cotton: Contains 20% cotton pulp, resulting in a softer, whiter, and more "cushioned" writing surface. It is particularly favored for sketching and using broad-nibbed fountain pens, though some users report more feathering with very wet inks compared to the standard version.

  • MD PAPER Thick: A heavier-weight version of the standard paper, often used for flyleaf pages or specialized art notebooks meant for drawing and light watercolor washes.

Here is another notebook I like to use for jotting down my thoughts. I picked up this MD notebook in Japan and used it mostly for business meetings. Now that I’m retired, I don’t need it for work, but I still bring it along when I meet people or go on short trips. It’s handy when my bag is too small for my thick journal or big sketchbook.

I also use a cover to protect my notebook. Various A6-size covers available at online stores fit perfectly with the MD notebooks. The one I use has several pockets, which I used to fill with business cards, Post-its, and photos. Great for anyone who wants a small, simple cover with pockets and a pen holder.

Not only MD notebooks and papers, but also Midori MD stationery like writing tools and envelopes are popular because they strike a perfect balance between minimalist Japanese design and high-performance functionality.
