Baggy Pants
Thoughts about style in clothing
11/30/2025

Anyway, here's a drawing of a woman I met. She wore big, baggy pants, a lightweight, cropped cardigan, oversized shoes, and headphones over her cap. It was a refreshing sight, especially baggy pants, which I think have firmly reemerged as cool fashion again. It is a relaxed vibe with a bold fashion aesthetic and matches well with anything light, like simple tops, tailored blouses, or fitted knits. And I think her style was effortlessly cool, a welcome change from all the loungewear I see daily.
I understand that my neighborhood is a cozy beach town, not downtown New York, Paris, or Tokyo. Still, it is refreshing to see how some people are chic with recent fashion trends and how they save me from boring clothing styles.
I don’t remember every detail of her outfit, but her style inspired me to sketch her. Since thrifted clothes are popular now, I changed her cardigan in my drawing to look like something from the 70s.
.*Materials I used for journaling:
Double tips brush pens.
1.0 felt pen
300gsm watercolor paper.
Background music
Latte
... and photo of the person I took this morning.
Living in a small town in southern California, where women’s yoga pants, guys’ shorts, and T-shirts are the norm, it is nice to meet casual fashionists who coordinate their clothes and accessories with a bit of ongoing trends.
Why observing individuals with unique fashion senses is important for me:
Strengthen your own style: By observing people's styling, I gain a realistic perspective on the latest trends and how people experiment with different items and clothes to create their style.
Encourages Non-Conformist Problem Solving: Street fashion is often a "grassroots" expression that ignores rigid industry rules. It encourages me to overcome mental blocks and stimulates me to try something new.
Deepens Your Understanding of Storytelling: Every outfit tells a story about a person's identity, culture, or beliefs. Noticing these fashion messages helps me appreciate the stories behind each style and use this understanding in my creative work.
